Sofapaka elevate coach Ouma to Sporting Director role

FKF Premier League outfit Sofapaka have elevated head coach David Ouma to take charge as the Sporting Director of the club.

In a statement on their social media pages, Batoto ba Mungu announced the appointment by saying: “We are pleased to inform you, coach David Ouma has now been elevated to the club’s Sporting Director. Congratulations Sir.”

When reached for comment, Ouma, whose coaching career saw him handle the Kenya women’s national team, Posta Rangers and Mathare United, said he was ready to take up the role and further gave South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns’ achievements as what he wants to recreate with the team.

“Of course, I thank God because you know everything is step by step, of course just the other day I was grassroots coach and again based on the experiences I coached at different levels for the youth teams, and of course building my portfolio to come and coach at the Kenyan Premier League, where I have handled Sofapaka, Mathare United, Posta Rangers, and Mathare Youth,” Ouma told People Sports.

He added: “I will try to develop youth teams for Sofapaka and my target will be between U15 and U17 teams and for me I will also guide the team on club licensing to avoid what happened to Gor Mahia recently with CAF because my focus is to make Sofapaka reach the levels of Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, that is where I will be looking to reach with the team.”

Sofapaka will kick off the new season with a fixture against Gor Mahia on August 26.
