“We are going for nothing short of a win” says Coach Akwana

Sofapaka FC will be looking forward to collect their first 3 winning points of the season when they play host to visiting Kenya Police FC tomorrow at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos County.

For the first time in over three years an FKF-PL game will be staged at Machakos county. The venue last hosted a league match before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Batoto ba Mungu as they are commonly referred to as will be using the stadium for their home matches and are expecting to produce positive results in front of hundreds of fans who have vowed to turn in large number and support the club tomorrow.

Heading into this match, Sofapaka will be seeking a win in order to remove themselves from the unfamiliar territory that they find themselves, they lie at the bottom of the 18-team log with just a single point, having lost 5 of their matches and drawing in one condemning them to their worst ever league start in the club’s history.

Beating their opponents will not be a walk in the park for the home team since their challengers recently reinforced their technical bench by bringing on board Croatian tactician Zdravko Logarusic who is very experienced in the Kenyan league having coached both AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia in the past.

Since taking over Police, Logarusic has led the club to two wins against Nairobi City Stars where he won 1-0 before cruising past Bidco United with a 2-0 victory before the FIFA international break.

Sofapaka has proved to be a tough nut to crack for Police because in their last four previous duels the law enforcers only managed to beat them once and drew in three.

After going down 2-0 away at Muranga Seals Sofapaka Coach Ezekiel Akwana will be seeking redemption and give the team their first win of the season.
“We have to win this match if we are to get ourselves from the bottom, we have had ample training time and morale is high at the camp hence we expect a win tomorrow. My players are more than ready for the task ahead. We urge our fans to come and support at Kenyatta stadium,” noted Akwana

Akwana on the international break

Sofapaka FC head coach, Ezekiel Akwana, stated that he has found the international break beneficial for this team’s training and preparation.
Akwana who recently took over from Francis Haringingo says he has had the opportunity to assess all aspects of the squad and individual player performance during this break.

Batoto ba Mungu are gearing up for their upcoming FKF-PL match against Kenya Police FC scheduled for October 21 2023 at Machakos Stadium, in Machakos County.

After experiencing a 2-0 defeat against Muranga Seals in his first match in charge, the veteran tactician reiterated he will be using the reaming days before the league resumes to get his players ready and be in the best shape both physically and mentally.

“The break has helped me see what to change and what to keep, the remaining days are crucial for me and the technical bench if we are to produce positive results at the weekend,” quipped Akwana

Coach Francis Haringingo Part Ways with Sofapaka FC on Mutual Consent.

We wish to inform our beloved fans that the Head Coach Francis Haringingo and Pablo Nduwimana have come into agreement with the club to part ways on Mutual Consent. Coach Haringingo assumed his role as head coach of the team just two and a half months ago in which he has been in charge of 5 games that we’ve drawn one and lost 4 matches in a row.

The coach made the decision in the wake of a series of disappointing results in the club’s last five matches.

In light of these challenges, Ezekiel Akwana will step in as the acting head coach and he will be assisted by immediate Team Manager Hillary Echesa and is expected to lead the team in their upcoming match against Muranga Seal FC until further notice that will be announced by the club in the coming days.

Elly Kalekwa, the President of Sofapaka FC, expressed his gratitude to Coach Haringingo and his assistant for his dedication and efforts during his tenure with the club. “Francis is a top-notch coach; indeed we have started the league badly off than we expected but as you all know we’re still on transition period because we brought in over 16 new players as well as a new technical bench. Its goes without saying that it will take a while before we jell. We shall keep the faith for a better result as we continue to push forward. Personally I am not disappointed considering i had high hopes with my bench and i was willing to be patient with them but as fate would have it ,I will respect his decision of Mutual termination of his contract, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Kalekwa.

Coach Haringingo also reflected on his time with Sofapaka FC, stating, “It was a pleasure working for the 2009 champions. Steering this talented team was a great challenge, even though we did not achieve the desired results.”

Haringingo further added, “We have come to a mutual agreement with President Kalekwa, and I would like to thank him for the opportunity to work in the Kenyan Premier League and be a part of a club with a rich history and tradition like Sofapaka FC,”

He further thanked, the fans, players and supporting staff.

Sofapaka FC wishes Coach Haringingo and Pablo Nduwimana success in their future endeavors, as they look forward to a fresh start under the guidance of Acting Coach Ezekiel Akwana

I will work with the head coach to win: Coach Akwana

Sofapaka’s newly appointed assistant coach Ezekiel Akwana stated he rejoined his former club to aid coach Francis Haringingo win matches.

The former international who has previously been part of the Batoto ba Mungu rejoins the 2009 champions after serving at Muranga seals and Mathare United clubs.

Akwana believes his vast experience in coaching in the local league will play a huge role in making Sofapaka win their game against Nairobi City Stars this Saturday and finish the league among the top six teams.

“Am elated to be back at home and my main role as an assistant coach is to work together with coach Haringingo to ensure the club start winning their matches. We have a good team with talented, skilled and hard- working players that can help in producing positive results. As the head coach deals with the players my duty will be keenly studying and monitoring our opponents in order to be well prepared for combat when we take to the center stage, “Quipped Akwana.

In regards to having pressure after being brought in when the team is languishing at the bottom of the 18-team log with a single point from three defeats a draw Akwana stated, “Every coach is always after the three points and am no exception, we have a new coach taking over a team with a fair number of new players and this can be a little problematic. Its good that we have discovered the jelling problem now rather than later and dealt with it. With the kind of training we have had for last couple of days am assured of a win and fans to turn up in large number to help us in our quest to this season,”

Am underpressure now, Coach Haringingo says

After going down by a solitary goal in the hands of Ulinzi Stars FC at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Nairobi on September 24, Sofapaka tactician Francis Haringingo acknowledged that he is now under pressure to produce positive results.

Sofapaka have played four games in which they have only managed to collect a point after playing to a 1-1 all draw against champions Gor Mahia FC in their opening clash before going down 1-0 to visiting Bandari FC in their second game. In their third game Batoto ba Mungu lost 3-1 in the hands of Posta Rangers.

The soft spoken Burudian coach stated he is now under pressure for the team to score more goals in order to get out of the bottom of the 18-team log.

“We played well against the soldiers today if only we had utilized all the chances that we created I believe we would have emerged victorious. My players had outclassed our challengers in every aspect until they got the free-kick which they successfully converted to a goal and that’s football, you are punished by making a mistake and you win by utilizing the chances that you get,” said Haringingo

He added, “Our mission now is to go back to the drawing board and work on scoring because I trust the forwards are capable of finding the back of the net in order for us to start collecting three points. This week we are going to work have an intense training session as we prepare to battle Nairobi City Stars at the weekend.”

Haringingo believes he has good players that are able to produce positive results before the end of the first leg as well at finish with a silverware at the end of the season.

Batoto ba Mungu are placed 18th on team log with a single point, nine points below table toppers Posta Rangers.
